Bangladesh resides in the low-lying Ganges-Brahmaputra River Delta—the perfect place for dramatic climate conditions. If the sea level rises one meter, 50% of the area would be flooded. Bangladesh also falls in the heart of the monsoon belt. Each year floods, tropical cyclones, tornadoes, and tidal bores occur annually, and often with tragic results.
The sea level currently rises by 0.14 inches (3.5 millimeters) each year. As temperatures warm even more, this rate could very easily increase.
