24 Stunning Places That Climate Change Is Destroying For Future Generations
Seychelles
It’s not every day that people think about rising sea levels—that is unless you live somewhere that is predicted to sink first. Rising sea levels due to global warming are a serious threat to the people of Seychelles. Seychelles is an island country off the coast of Kenya in the Indian Ocean that is home to more than 86,000 people.
Unfortunately, Seychelles is not very high above sea level. Some coral reefs have already bleached, and beach erosion is worsening. In fact, this is the largest reef die-off ever seen. Seychelles may be ruined before it even sinks if saltwater seeps into the water supply or soil. The water would be undrinkable and crops would be destroyed. Some of the Seychelles islands have already vanished.
