Athabasca Glacier in Alberta, Canada is the most-visited glacier in all of North America. About 21 feet of snow accumulates around the glacier annually, providing tourists with an unforgettable wintery landscape. Even with this heavy snow pack, the glacier itself has been receding for the past 125 years. It is already more than a mile shorter. What remains of the glacier is three miles long and 300 feet deep. Athabasca recedes at a rate of thirty yards each year. Scientists predict the glacier will be gone within one generation, but the glacier currently powers various hydroelectric plants.
