This rugged park juts out suddenly in the middle of nowhere South Dakota. Its impactful scenery carries some of the richest fossil beds in the world. Ancient mammals like the rhino, horse, and saber-toothed cat once made themselves at home here. Now the 244,000 acres are home to bison, bighorn sheep, prairie dogs, and black-footed ferrets.
