5. The Berkshires, Massachusetts

Technically a part of the Green Mountains — which are technically a part of the Appalachians — The Berkshires in Massachusetts are hills wedged between the Taconic Mountains in the west, and the Metacomet Ridge in the east. Really just the northern end of the same hills that make up the Litchfield Hills, the Berkshire leaves begin changing just a tad earlier, in early- to mid-October.
