16 Extreme Places People Actually Live
By Mandy Burkholder |
Kowloon Walled City, Hong Kong
A real-life dystopian film set.
Kowloon Walled City was an unbelievable sight. Demolished in 1994 due to extreme crime, unstable architecture, and general squalor for its residents, this former Chinese military fort was home to nearly 50,000 people (packed into just 6.5 acres). Run by an organized syndicate known as the Triads, Kowloon Walled City was in complete disarray by the 1980’s, despite its long reign as the most densely populated town in the World.
