When people think high altitude, they might not imagine South America at first. But it’s true that the most highly elevated town on Earth is in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Resting at 16,732 feet, La Rinconada is known for the adjacent gold mine. Nearly all the residents work in the mine, but receive no pay. Instead, they are allowed to carry heaps of ore from the mine every 30 days and extract whatever gold they can from the masses. Would you dare to take on that challenge?
