By Mandy Burkholder |
Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway

Known as the world’s northernmost settlement of any kind with more than 1,000 permanent residents, these Norwegians seriously know how to rough it. With an average high of 8.6 degrees fahrenheit in January, even a bowl of ice cream would seem warm.
