Plague Island, Italy
This small island outside Venice was used for a quarantine for 160,000 people who had the plague between 1793 to 1814. Enormous graveyards of victims are still visible, and on top of that, from 1922 to 1968 the island held a mental hospital with a doctor who tortured and killed many patients.
