Cruising The Western Coast Of Ireland
Cruising The Western Coast Of Ireland
Ireland is notorious for St. Patrick’s Day, Guinness Beer, and cheerful locals who take their pint quite seriously.
A land of dense, green rolling hills, Ireland’s western coast is a beautiful escape not many Americans know about.
So find your favorite mix tape, sit back, and enjoy the cruise through Ireland’s west coast. You’re in for an unbelievable journey!
First stop, Limerick. Yes, the famous style of quirky, rhymed poetry originated here! You’ll want to pause for a beautiful view of King John’s Castle on the River Shannon.
Next up, the Cliffs of Moher. One good look over the edge and you’ll never want to leave the unparalleled (and dramatic) beauty of the western cliffs.
Third, Galway is a must. A classic shipping port, Galway retains a coastal charm you’ll fall in love with. Stop for a hot chocolate or tea in a local shop and peruse the adorable historic streets.
Next, travel north along the coast to Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Garden. Tucked in amongst the luscious green forest, Kylemore Abbey was built in 1861 for Mitchell Henry, a wealthy doctor. However, from 1920 until present, it’s been used as a Benedictine Abbey.
After that, it’s time for a walk on Achill Island. Known for it’s breathtaking landscapes and pleasant beach, Achill Island is the largest island off the coast of Ireland.
Sixth is a visit to the coastal town of Sligo, which rests gently underneath the great plateau Benbulbin. It’s true that the beauty of Sligo influenced the great poet (and Nobel laureate) W.B. Yeats.
Last on the tour is Glenveagh National Park in County Donegal. As the second largest national park in Ireland, Glenveagh plays host to the largest population of red deer in the country.
