8 Ways you’re Ruining your Healthy Salad
Adding too many nuts
Nuts are a double edged sword for dieters. They’re very high in calories and fat, but they’re also high in protein — great for vegetarians and vegans — and they also have relatively good ratios of heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids and artery clogging omega-6 fatty acids. If not for their high calorie count we’d tell you to go crazy with them, but we just can’t do that.
Walnuts and pecans are out favorite nuts for salads, but they’re also the more likely to help you pack on the pounds. If you insist on throwing them on your salad, consider chopping them up very well; the small pieces will go a lot further in adding texture and flavor to your greens. You ought to consider shaved almonds also.
